A wooden cross and a box for new donations appeared at the pool in the early 1990s. In November, 1994 the Council of the Russian Orthodox Church made a decision to reconstruct the cathedral. The dream of many Russians came true - the cathedral began its second life. Opposite the Cathedral of Christ the Savior the Cathedral of Ilya the Ordinary (96) is located. It is built in 1702 in Peter's baroque style on the place of the original cathedral that had been built in the end of 15 century. An "Ordinary" church was one built during a single day due to a vow. According to a legend, one prince got into a terrible storm here and vowed that if he lives, he would built a wooden church for the sake of Ilya the Prophet during a single day.
