In the neighbourhoods of Starocherkassk the remains of earthen 1630-s Saint Anna fortress are preserved.

Starocherkassky Historical and Architectural Museum Park is listed in UNESCO international tourist guide, and Starocherkasskaya village is put into the "List of Russian Federation settlements having valuable architectural ensembles, complexes, or ancient culture layer"

Novocherkassk was the last capital of Don Cossacks. The main building of the city is the Assumption Troop Cathedral. This six-head cathedral created in New-Byzantine style, is 74,6 meters high. It is the third cathedral by size in Russia, after Isakiy cathedral in Saint-Petersburg and Christ the Savior cathedral in Moscow.

The two Triumph Arches, erected in 1817 in honour of Don Cossacks' exploits in the 1812 Patriotic War and Foreign Voyages of 1813-1814, are the pearl of the city.

On Sobornaya square monuments are constructed to famous Don natives: Yermak, Platov, Baklanov. The only one Museum of Don Cossacks can be found in Novocherkassk since 1899. It stores rare items such as the battle banners, collections of weapons and household items…The Museum has branches, such as Memorial House Museum of Ivan Krylov the singer of Don steppes and House Museum of Soviet battle painting pioneer Mitrofan Grekov.
