Valdai is a favourite recreation and tourism spot of dozens of thousands of tourists. People come here to see the revived Iver monastery, to visit the first District Town Museum and Museum of Bells in Russia, to view the exhibitions of artists and craftsmen in the Folk Art House, to visit Trinity cathedral that was re-constructed several years ago. They come here to touch this wonderful land of Russian nature and spirituality by soul and heart.

In Staraya Russa and its neighbourhoods the monuments of old Russian architecture are preserved. The most ancient of them is the Savior Transfiguration church (1198). The only remains of the original construction are the lower parts of walls with pieces of XVII century fresco. Now Starorussky Local Museum, branch of Novgorod State United Museum Park is located in the buildings of the Savior Transfiguration monastery.
