For two centuries scientists continue discussions about the certain location of the place, where the famous battle between prince Igor and the Polovets took place, that was described in the "the Lay of Igor's Warfare". Many scientists are prompt to consider it to be negibourhoods of Belaya-Kalitva town, in the interstream area of the Belaya-Kalitva and Kayala-Bystraya rivers, near Sokolyi hills. A monument is created on the top of a steppe barrow in honour of this event.
Kobyakovo settlement, where prince Igor was kept in prison of Polovets khan Kobyak, according to a legend, is located between Aksai and Rostov-on-Don.
The art of Mikhail Sholokhov made Don land widely famous. His books have got world-wide fame, and so has Don and Don Cossacks as well. In 1984 M. Sholokhov's State Museum Park was created. It began from a small literary exhibition, and now it occupies 40 thousand hectares.
