Alexander's Garden
Alexander's garden was established by command of Russian Emperor Alexander "Blessed" I, whose name after 1814 was mainly associated with getting Europe ridden from Napoleon. Once the Neglinnaya river had flowed here. It was one of the first rivers closed into a tube. But Alexander's garden is not just a promenade ground. It is one of the most famous memorial parks of Moscow. In 1997 a special decree of President moved the so-called #1 Watch, the main soldier's watch in Russian Army, from Lenin's Mausoleum(2). The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier(28) is a memorial to all the soldiers fallen, first of all - to the ones, whose names still are not specified. The writing on bronze on the gravestone expresses the main idea of the composition: "Your name is unknown, your exploit is immortal".
One can enter the Kremlin (71) through the Troitskiye (30) or the Borovitskiye Gates (39), but we should feast our eyes upon its ancient walls and towers first. They were erected by Italian masters Antonio Fryazin and Pietro Antonio Solari in 1485 - 1495. The wall merlons bear a resemblance to swallow's tail's. They served as a shelter for marksmen guarding the Kremlin during sieges. The gabled roofs of the towers were raised in the 17th century by Russian builders who paid tribute to the national architectural style. In the south-western corner of the Kremlin the Vodovzvodnaya ("Water-Lifting") tower (40) dominates. It got its name in 17 century, when a water-lifting engine was established here to pass water to Kremlin through lead pipes.
