Other settlements of Zamoskvorechye also served the court. There lived coiners, gardeners and kitchen gardeners as well as interpreters. By the mid-18th century Zamoskvorechye became a favorite settling place of the merchant class.
We approach up to the church of St. Nicholas the Miracle-Worker at Tolmachi. It was reconstructed completely by restorers of the State Tretyakov Gallery. The main relic of the church is the Icon of Our Lady of Vladimir. This sacred image was brought from Constantinople to Kiev, then it was taken to Vladimir by prince Bogolyubsky, and later it came to Moscow. According to a Moscow legend, the icon rescued the town from Tamerlan. It was kept in the Kremlin Cathedral of the Assumption till the revolution. Five churches stood there in beauty, but now we can see just one of them, however - the Church of the Resurrection of Christ at Kadashy. It is a typical five-domed Moscow temple of the 17th century.
