Former Aksaiskaya village - now Aksai town - served as an outpost on the approach road to the capital of the Cossacks - Cherkassky town. Still preserved are the narrow cobbled streets built with classis early XIX century houses with three windows on the frontispiece, and side galleries of "Askai Classicism" style. The remaining monuments of architecture include the house of the post caretaker and the post station, where A. S. Pushkin, M. Yu. Lermontov, P. I. Chaikovsky, L. N. Tolstoy and other prominent Russian artists stayed. Numerous guests of Aksai visit with great interest the examples of XIX-XX military equipment exhibited on an open air space in Mukhina Balka. All these items are part of Aksai military and historical museum.
