The properties of development of our region hardly can be presented without mentioning the small towns, the oldest one from which is Tara, that has recently celebrated its 400-year anniversary.

With this town, which is among the oldest settlements in Siberia, the first stages of the grateful Middle Irtysh land colonization are associated. Teams and expeditions for new lands' exploration and acquisition were formed in Tara. Since the first years of colonization Siberia became an exile location. Famous Decembrists and revolutionaries passed by Tara road. In 1791 one of the first Russian revolutionaries, A. Radischev, passed through Tara, being sentenced to exile to Ishim burg for "provoking peasants to riot against the landlords".

In 1627 the Bolsheretskiy Outpost appeared on the wide Siberian river Irtysh as a defensive fortification against the Kalmyks' raids onto Russian settlements. Here Bolsherechensky State Zoo was located - the most northern zoo in the world and the only one country zoo in Russia.
