1147 - First mention of Moscow in the chronicles. Founder of Moscow Yuri Dolgorukiy.
1328 - Moscow becomes a center of Moscow Grand Principality - the main city of the Russian land.
1564 - Ivan Fedorov prints the first book in Moscow.
1612 - The folk militia leaded by Minin and Pozharskiy liberates Moscow from Polish invaders.
1672 - Peter I, the first Russian Emperor is born in the Kolomenskoe village.
1686 - The Slav-Greek-Latin academy is founded.
1709-1711 - The fluorit of first Moscow governor boyar T. N. Streshnev.
1713 - The capital of Russia is transferred from Moscow to St-Petersburg.
1755 - The first university in Russia, Moscow University is founded.
1799 - In Moscow, in Nemetskaya (German) street (nowadays Baumanskaya street) A. S. Pushkin the great Russian poet and writer is born.
1812 - The 1812 Patriotic War. The Moscow Fire.
1814 - In Moscow in Kalanchevskaya street M. Yu. Lermontov the great Russian poet and writer is born.
1872 - First horse-drawn rail rout on Tverskaya street is opened.
1883 - Christ the Savior Cathedral is consecrated.
1892 - The Tretyakov brothers pass their gallery of arts to the city. In 1897 P. M. Tretyakov is given the title of Honourary Citizen of Moscow.
1905 - First Russian revolution. Armed rebellion in Krasnaya Presnya in December.
1917 - On March 2 the M. V. Chelnokov, Moscow commissioner of the Provisional Government, is appointed.
1918 - On March 12 Moscow becomes the capital of Soviet Russia.
1924 - The first autobus traffic begins.
1933 - The first trolleybus traffic starts.
1935 - The first metro line is opened.
1939 - Beginning of regular television broadcasting.
1941 - The German troops are beaten at Moscow.
1945 - The Victory Parade on the Red Square in honour of the victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).
1947 - Celebration of 800th anniversary of Moscow.
1957 - VI World Festival of yourth and students.
1965 - Moscow gets the honourable title of the "Hero City".
1980 - ÕXII Olympic Games in Moscow.
1991 - The first Moscow Mayor - G. Kh. Popov - is elected by direct secret ballot.
1995 - On January 7 the ceremonial laying of re-constructed Christ the Savior Cathedral took place.
1995 - The title of Honourary Citizen of Moscow is restored.
1995 - Official symbols of the capital - emblem, flag and anthem - are approved.
1995 - The Victory Memorial Complex is opened on Poklonnaya hill.
1997 - The 5th Conference of the largest cities' mayors.
1997 - Celebration of 850th anniversary of Moscow.
1998 - The first World Youth Games in Moscow
1999 - Celebration of 200th anniversary of birthday of A S. Pushkin, the great Russian poet and writer.
2000 - On August 19 the consecration of the re-constricted Christ the Savior Cathedral takes place. It becomes the Metropolitan Cathedral.
2002 - The International Youth Sport Games of Russian regions, SIC and Baltic states.
2004 - The 3rd International Conference of city mayors "The Diplomacy of Cities"
2005 - Celebration of 60th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and 40th anniversary of Moscow given the "Hero City" title.
